Super Bowl Betting Strategies: How to approach betting on Chiefs vs. Eagles

With so many betting options ahead of the Big Game, it never hurts to develop or review some Super Bowl betting strategies. Before betting on the Chiefs vs. Eagles, do as much research as you can on the strengths and weaknesses of the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles teams.

Below is some information about the betting markets for Chiefs vs. Eagles, as well as tips on how to make a betting plan before placing a bet.

Super Bowl betting odds: Chiefs vs. Eagles
Betting on the Super Bowl can be an overwhelming task for the novice sports bettor. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of betting markets for the game alone.

Beginners should probably stick to the classics before diving into more exotic markets. The classics include moneyline, point spread and Over/Under bets.

Moneyline: Who will win the Super Bowl?

A moneyline bet is simply a prediction of which side will win the game. For a moneyline bet, the point spread doesn't matter, it only rewards the outright winner of the Super Bowl.

The odds on the Chiefs winning Super Bowl 59 at most of our top sports betting sites are around -120, meaning you need to bet $120 to win $100 if Kansas City wins. On the other hand, the odds for an Eagles win at most betting shops are +110. If you bet $100 on a Philadelphia win at those odds, you will win $110. In addition, you'll get your original $100 back, so your total payout will be $210.

Of course, you don't necessarily have to bet $100 on the Super Bowl. For example, if you bet $10 on the Eagles moneyline at +110 odds, you'll get $11 if they beat the Chiefs. You could even bet $1 and win $1.10 - there's no shame in that!

Managing your bankroll is one of the best ways to remain a profitable sports bettor and leave enough money for the wide variety of bets available before the Super Bowl each year.

Spread: Who will cover the Super Bowl line?
At the start of last year's Super Bowl, the 49ers were going in as 2.5-point favorites, but that bet soon changed to +1 on the defending champion Chiefs, who have come out as underdogs in each of the last two Super Bowls.

The odds on Kansas City to win ranged from +1.5 to +2.5 on our top real-time betting sites, meaning they needed to win or lose by 1-2 points to cover the spread. If they lost by exactly two points, all +2.5 tickets would be cashed, but those who bet on +1.5 would lose.

With such a small point spread, many bettors prefer to bet on the moneyline, and last year this strategy would have been profitable. However, it usually doesn't hurt to have an extra point in your pocket if the odds are comparable.

Over/Under: How many points will be scored?
When betting on the total, you want to decide how many points both teams will score - over or under.

Over the years, the Super Bowl has produced virtually identical results for both sides, so there is no “wrong” answer when betting on the Super Bowl. Sometimes the “right” side can depend on when you place your bet, as was the case with Super Bowl 58.

For almost all of the two weeks leading up to the Big Game, the total was 47.5. Then, right before the game started, it closed at 46.5. The final score of 25-22 was exactly 47 points scored, meaning that those who bet the total higher or lower would have gotten different results depending on when they bet.

Other popular Super Bowl bets
Here are some other popular Super Bowl bets.

Player Props
There seems to be no end to the Super Bowl prop bets available every year, and that was certainly the case with the Chiefs-49ers game last year.

The most popular propositions are player bets, which ask you to bet on over or under totals such as yards rushing, yards passing, yards receiving, and whether or not a player will reach the end zone, with our odds on a touchdown scored anytime at the Super Bowl.

For those looking for the best way to capitalize on their soccer knowledge without having to predict the actual outcome of the game, player props are the way to go.

Gaming props
Game props include various bets related to specific game outcomes, such as Super Bowl score predictions or other bets related to game totals, exact odds, or whether the Super Bowl will go into overtime.

One of my favorite markets to bet on is the odds on the kickoff return from the Super Bowl kickoff, as we have only seen a kickoff return nine times in Super Bowl history, even when the Yes side has been considered a major favorite in recent years. These are the kinds of bets that can be particularly interesting to build your Super Bowl betting portfolio around.

Innovative Props
These bets test not so much your soccer knowledge as your pop culture knowledge or, in the case of the popular coin toss odds on the Super Bowl, your appetite for betting on a 50/50 outcome.

As silly as they may seem, novelty props are indeed a welcome scene for bettors of all experience and skill levels, and you can find value in these markets, too.

In the lead-up to Super Bowl 2024, we detailed the odds on the Super Bowl national anthem, how to approach Usher's performance with odds on the Super Bowl semifinal show, and even the popular odds on the color of Gatorade for the liquid that will be poured on the Super Bowl winning head coach.

Expect these markets to also appear before Super Bowl 2025, and we'll tell you when they do.

Parlays/GPZ
Parlays are rarely a good idea for those looking for the most lucrative bet, but they can be an interesting way to get a big payout with great odds by combining multiple outcomes into one bet.

We've taken an in-depth look at Super Bowl parlays and the best ways to create a single game parlay (SGP) bet, so I highly recommend checking out this guide before creating your own Super Bowl parlay.

Long Bets
If you're looking for a way to make a big score without the added risk associated with parlay, consider placing one or two separate bets with large odds.

Unlike parlay betting, you don't need multiple events to happen in order for your bet to be cashed out. Instead, you can focus on identifying one specific event that is unlikely but could happen under favorable circumstances - and if it does, you'll remember it forever.

We covered our favorite Super Bowl bets before Super Bowl 58, and two of them turned a profit with great odds. Even one or two of these bets can be the deciding factor between a losing and winning day of the Big Game.

Super Bowl Betting Strategies
Here are some Super Bowl betting strategies. Make a plan before you start betting on the Chiefs vs Eagles matchup.

Track line movement
By knowing the line movement and tracking prices in various markets on our top NFL betting sites, bettors can get an idea of where the value may be moving. For example, if you see that the total has gone from 47.5 to 50.5, you may want to go in a different direction rather than betting on a line that the market has already devalued.

Being late and chasing line movement can hurt you in the long run if you sacrifice value just to be part of a “popular” pick. That's why it's a good idea to shop early and keep an eye on what lines are moving.

Create a story and stick to it
Do your research and decide what style of play you expect to see at the Super Bowl. There are enough statistics and trends to make a compelling argument about almost any possible outcome, but it's important to develop your own game plan and bet accordingly.

For example, if you think the Chiefs offense will be successful against the 49ers, you might bet on Patrick Mahomes making an over on a pass. But you also wouldn't want to bet on Kansas City's receivers, for example, if you're not sure which players he'll end up targeting.

Deciding what to trust and then sticking with it is an important practice for the disciplined bettor.

Browse the markets and odds
With the growing number of legal options available to the modern sports bettor, you'll be doing yourself a disservice if you don't store around for the best combination of favorable lines (spread, totals, etc.) and the best Super Bowl prices you can find.

We regularly talk about the value of line shopping at Sportsbook Review, as it is the foundation of everything we do. As part of that, I can't stress enough the importance of checking our top sportsbook promotions - especially for an event as popular as the Super Bowl - to get the absolute best value out of every bet you place.

How to read Super Bowl odds
Reading Super Bowl odds is easy. Odds are usually presented in the format of +500 or -200. Positive odds (e.g. +500) show how much profit you will make on a $100 bet.

For example, a $100 bet with +500 odds will win you $500, plus your original $100 bet, for a total of $600. Negative odds (e.g. -200) show how much you need to bet to win $100. So, a $200 bet at -200 odds will win you $100, plus your $200 bet, for a total of $300.

These odds also reflect the likelihood of a particular Super Bowl outcome. Lower odds (e.g., +300) indicate a higher probability, while higher odds (e.g., +2000) indicate a lower probability. Sportsbooks adjust these odds based on player and team results, news, internal rumors, and betting patterns.

If Christian McCaffrey has +500 odds and George Kittle has +1000 odds on him scoring a touchdown, there is a higher probability that McCaffrey will score. If you bet $100 on a runner and he gets into the end zone, you'll get $600 back ($500 profit + $100 bet).
