Players we want to see in the 2026 Super Bowl: Will Daniels and Gibbs continue to grow?

The NFL calendar is forever moving at breakneck speed. We're discussing free agency before the Super Bowl confetti has even been cleared away.

The scorching August sun and training camp are coming up fast. So with the Big Game still fresh in our minds, it's never too early to think about the players we want to see in the 2026 Super Bowl.

Let's look ahead and think about who would best shine under the league's brightest spotlight.

Super Bowl 2026: five players we'd like to see play
Jaden Daniels, QB, Washington Commanders
2024 stats: 3,568 passing yards, 25 TDs, 9 interceptions, 69.0 completion percentage, 891 rushing yards, 6 rushing yards.

Daniels was so close, yet so far from taking the surging Chiefs to the Super Bowl. They tussled with the Philadelphia Eagles for a bit before Saquon Barkley, as is often the case, began to run away quickly.

Still, beating the Detroit Lions in the divisional round was quite a feat. Daniels, who was the winner, was instrumental in that contest, racking up 299 passing yards with two touchdowns and 51 yards rushing. This moment of impressive composure by a rookie in the playoffs came after he set a first-year QC record with 891 yards rushing.

He'll need help from defenders to make the next leap, but both Daniels and the Commodores have a lot to build off of.

Jahmir Gibbs, RB, Detroit Lions
Stats for 2024: 1,412 runs, 52 receptions, 517 passing yards, 20 touchdowns.

The Lions suffered a stunning loss to Washington in a playoff game that wasn't particularly close, losing 45-31. But, as with Daniels, Gibbs' team's loss in the postseason occurred mostly when he was on the sideline.

Gibbs was more than up to the task, especially late in the season when David Montgomery was sidelined. In the last three regular season games and the only playoff game, the Lions gained an average of 165.5 yards per carry. This dynamic player also led the league in touchdowns (20).

Despite the success of the last two years, Detroit has some issues to address. But Gibbs and the backfield are definitely not on that list.

Lamar Jackson, QB, Baltimore Ravens
Stats for 2024: 4,172 passing yards, 41 passing touchdowns, 4 interceptions, 66.7 percent completion rate, 915 passing yards, 4 passing touchdowns.

Lamar Jackson was robbed after being a leader for most of last season. This was after he lost a tense playoff duel with Josh Allen, who ended up being the MVP.

Jackson has already won the NFL MVP twice and finished second in the voting once. He has consistently shined, and although Jackson made mistakes during the playoff loss to the Bills, the athletic passer still did plenty to inspire awe both then and throughout the season. Among them were a career-high number of touchdowns and a career-low number of interceptions in a full year of play.

He was let down by a defense that was nearly the worst in the league. In the end (and hopefully mercifully?) Baltimore will pull it all together and capitalize on a generational talent at the most important position in soccer.

Myles Garrett, DE, Cleveland Browns
Stats for 2024: 14 sacks, 47 interceptions, 22 tackles for loss

Garrett is demanding a trade from the Cleveland Browns, and things could get confusing quickly as the team has repeatedly stated that they have no plans to move the star quarterback.

If the four-time All-Pro sticks to his increasingly clear stance that championship contention is not on the horizon for the Browns, who just lost 3-14, we could find ourselves in a holding pattern during training camp.

Hopes that one of the best pass-catchers of this era will soon make it to the postseason, let alone the Super Bowl, may hinge on his next destination. The Las Vegas Raiders are listed as the favorite team, which doesn't give any reason for Super Bowl hopes. However, the Chiefs are right behind them and could potentially offer a brighter future.

At 29 years old, Garrett still looks like he can still do a lot, and he just finished the season with a career record number of interceptions and fumbles.

Justin Jefferson, WR, Minnesota Vikings
Stats for 2024: 103 receptions, 1,533 yards, 10 TDs,

Jefferson has gained 1,500-plus yards three times in his first five campaigns, one of which was cut short due to an injury that led to seven missed games.

He's also scored 10 touchdowns this year, and Jefferson continues to be a target behemoth, ranking fourth in that category last season. However, like Jackson, Jefferson is on a team that continues to waste his best years.

The Vikings had 13-plus wins in two of the last three regular seasons, but never made the playoffs. Jefferson was named Offensive Player of the Year (2022) and Kevin O'Connell just won the award. Now they need another award.
