The biggest party in golf kicks off Thursday morning at TPC Scottsdale in Arizona and runs through the Super Bowl between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles. I've put together my top expert predictions for the WM Phoenix Open to try and top up the bankrolls of the Super Bowl participants.
Scottie Scheffler is the consensus odds favorite with the best available price of +280. The Chiefs are the Super Bowl favorite at -115 odds. Combining these two bets and winning both games would result in a profit of $61.04, according to our data.
It's the People's Open (and the Super Bowl), so let's aim for something more with my expert predictions for the WM Phoenix Open.
Expert predictions for the WM Phoenix Open
Straight Pick: Tom Kim to win WM Phoenix Open (+4000 on FanDuel)
Expert Pick: Wyndham Clark will win (+7000 on FanDuel)
First Round Leader Pick: Nick Taylor (+6000 on DraftKIngs)
It's officially tournament week.
Top pick at the Phoenix Open
Tom Kim
Best odds: +4000 on FanDuel | Estimated win probability: 2.44%
Kim finished T-7 in the Signature Event at Pebble Beach last week and briefly topped the leaderboard on Sunday. I was most impressed with his 1.00 ball strikes per round, as success on the greens will be key to winning the TPC Scottsdale.
Kim has played in this tournament each of the last two years. He posted a T-50 score in his debut and took a T-17 in the second round.
The star of last week's TGL tournament has the flair and confidence needed to win in the raucous environment of the People's Open. He seems to be a fan favorite at any event, and his confidence should be bolstered after a disappointing 2024 campaign.
Top pick for longshot at Phoenix Open
Wyndham Clark
Best odds: +7000 on FanDuel | Estimated win probability: 1.41%.
Clark didn't make the cut at The American Express and finished 73rd in the 80-man standings last week. But +7,000 for the No. 7 golfer in the tournament? I'll take that anytime.
He's averaging just 0.72 strokes per round on the Stadium Course at TPC Scottsdale, but just two years ago he tied for 10th, his best finish in six appearances in this tournament.
At times we have to choose price over current form. Clark's best result is at +5,000 odds. We get an extra $200 profit on a winning bet of $10 in an easier event.
Phoenix Open first-round leader's top pick
Nick Taylor
Best odds: +6000 on DraftKings | Estimated win probability: 1.64%
The People's Open champion ranks 27th on the PGA Tour with a first-round average of 68.00 through four tournaments this year, one of which he won. In the 2024 season, he ranked 30th in the same statistic.
Taylor's win last year followed his second-place finish the year before, and he is averaging a career-low 0.59 strokes per round on the Stadium Course.
I like his straight-up chances to defend his title, but I don't mind a slightly lower price for the 18-hole lead, as a $10 win would still yield a $600 profit.
