Bitcoin Miners Ignore BIP-110 as Upgrade Deadline Nears

Bitcoin miners are basically giving BIP-110 the cold shoulder. That silence is pushing the network toward a mandatory phase come August. As Bitcoin rolled into its final ordinary 2,016-block signaling window on July 25, support for the proposal was crawling at a tiny 0.89%.

To pass through standard channels, BIP-110 needs green lights from 1,109 blocks, or 55%. But with miners barely acknowledging the change, the proposal is on track to miss ordinary lock-in. That triggers a mandatory version-bit phase starting in August if signaling stays below the required threshold.

Bugs, Quantum Prep, and Protocol Upgrades

This standoff hits at a sensitive time for core development. Jameson Lopp recently framed Consensus Cleanup, covenants, and quantum preparation as the next critical agenda items for the network.

Upgrades on Bitcoin move notoriously slow. Miner inertia often forces core contributors to rely on mandatory activation windows just to push technical changes through.
