Zcash Holders Vote to Keep Halvings and Delay Recycled Tokens

Zcash holders just put their foot down. They voted to protect the network's traditional block reward halvings and push recycled token distributions all the way out to 2031.

The advisory poll laid out clear technical and economic rules for the privacy-focused blockchain. Alongside keeping halvings intact and pushing back recycled ZEC, voters gave developers the green light to ditch legacy Sprout transactions. They also backed faster block times and told devs to hit their upgrade deadlines—even if that means leaving unfinished features behind.

Pruning old tech and speeding up blocks

Phasing out Sprout strips away Zcash's oldest shielded pool tech. That slashes technical debt and makes code maintenance far less of a headache. Meanwhile, shorter block times mean payments settle faster, making the network actually usable day-to-day for traders and participants.

Why it matters

Halvings keep supply capped. Period. By voting to preserve them, ZEC holders chose predictable tokenomics over getting diluted by higher inflation. Pushing recycled tokens out to 2031 also wipes away looming short-term sell pressure, giving the ecosystem room to focus on core network upgrades that matter.
