Turkey has a legal betting market, but it's a state-run one. Sports betting in its licensed form means iddaa, run under the Spor Toto Teşkilat Başkanlığı (part of the Ministry of Youth and Sports). Lottery-type games fall under Milli Piyango. Offshore crypto sportsbooks don't hold a Turkish licence, so any site you find here sits outside that system. That shapes everything: access, payments and your own legal exposure.
Crypto itself is common in Turkey. Years of lira inflation pushed a lot of people toward dollar-pegged stablecoins as a savings tool, and that habit carries over to how people move money online. In practice that means BTCTurk- or Paribu-style local exchanges, USDT, and sites that get blocked and come back under new domains. If you go down this route, know that you're dealing with unlicensed operators. Turkish authorities won't help you resolve a dispute with them. Betting is for adults only. Iddaa requires players to be 18 or over, and offshore sites set their own limits too.

Paying from Turkey
Card deposits from Turkish banks to offshore betting sites tend to get declined, and bank transfers flagged as gambling-related draw attention from banks and MASAK, the Financial Crimes Investigation Board. Most crypto users fund accounts in two steps. First they buy crypto with lira on a local exchange, usually via havale/EFT or the FAST instant transfer system. Then they withdraw to a personal wallet and send it on. USDT on low-fee networks like TRC-20 is the usual choice, since it avoids lira swings between deposit and withdrawal. Be aware that the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (TCMB) banned using crypto assets directly for payments in a 2021 regulation, and exchanges may restrict accounts linked to gambling activity. Some exchanges also don't let you withdraw to every network, so check that before you buy.
Is it legal in Turkey?
As of my last information, unlicensed betting is prohibited under Law No. 7258 on the regulation of betting and games of chance in football and other sports. Running or promoting illegal betting carries criminal penalties. Players who bet on unlicensed sites can face administrative fines under the same law. The Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK) blocks access to offshore betting domains. Crypto service providers were brought under Capital Markets Board (SPK) oversight through 2024 amendments to the Capital Markets Law. That covers exchanges, not betting sites. These rules change, and this summary may be out of date. It isn't legal advice, so check current rules or talk to a Turkish lawyer before using any offshore sportsbook.
Turkey — frequently asked
Is it legal to use a crypto sportsbook from Turkey?
Licensed sports betting in Turkey runs through the state iddaa system. Law No. 7258 treats betting with unlicensed operators as illegal and allows administrative fines for players. Offshore crypto sportsbooks aren't licensed in Turkey.
Why do these sites keep changing their web addresses?
The BTK blocks offshore betting domains, so sites often move to new ones. Be careful following new links, because copycat phishing sites use the same trick.
Can I deposit with my Turkish bank card?
Turkish banks commonly decline card payments to offshore gambling merchants. Gambling-linked transfers can also trigger account reviews. That's why most users go through a crypto exchange instead.
Why do Turkish players mostly use USDT?
Stablecoins pegged to the dollar shield your balance from lira swings while it sits on a site. They're also widely traded on Turkish exchanges, so converting back and forth is simple.
Do I pay tax on crypto betting winnings in Turkey?
As far as I know, the tax treatment of crypto in Turkey has been under discussion, and the rules may have changed. Check current rules with a Turkish tax adviser rather than assuming there's nothing to declare.
