On Oct. 22, a huge block of SpaceX stock becomes sellable, and the timing collides with a live Aave governance proposal. About 1.3 billion shares are eligible that day. At the Oct. 20 close of $147.89, that works out to roughly $194.3 billion of stock.
The Aave proposal
A week earlier, Aave Labs proposed accepting tokenized SpaceX shares, ticker SPCXc, as collateral on its V4 Equities Hub on Base. The mechanics are simple. Users deposit the tokens and borrow against them.
LlamaRisk, Aave's risk adviser, has since published its assessment of the listing. The material I have doesn't spell out its conclusions, so go to the governance forum for the specifics. I'd rather point you there than guess.
Why the timing matters
Collateral is only as safe as its price is stable. A flood of newly sellable shares can push a price down quickly, and if SPCXc falls, loans backed by it move closer to liquidation. Lending protocols tend to feel that strain most when many borrowers hit their thresholds at once.
There's a second wrinkle. Tokenized shares track a stock that trades during set hours, while onchain markets never close. That gap can bite when news breaks off-hours.
Why it matters
Tokenized equities are one of crypto's biggest growth pitches, and Aave is trying to make them useful as collateral. This listing is an early stress test. If you lend or borrow on Aave, watch how the proposal's risk parameters, such as borrowing limits, respond to the unlock. If you're thinking of borrowing against SPCXc, keep your loan-to-value conservative. A lockup expiry is exactly when a price can move sharply. The open question is whether governance will slow the listing until the dust settles.
