Key takeaways
- Ethereum locked in the new Frame Transactions feature for the Hegotá upgrade.
- The change allows network users to cover gas fees without holding ETH.
- Co-founder Vitalik Buterin says development has moved rapidly since last month.
Ethereum users won't have to keep a balance of ETH parked in their wallets just to cover transaction fees for much longer.
Last month, developers locked a feature named Frame Transactions into the upcoming Hegotá upgrade. The addition lets people process network transactions without holding ETH for gas. According to Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, technical development on the implementation has moved briskly since approval.
Why it matters
For years, running out of ETH meant your wallet sat frozen until you bought or transferred more tokens to cover gas. That ends now. Stripping away that strict holding requirement eliminates one of the biggest friction points for everyday users, making dApp interactions and token transfers far smoother.
